Sinterklaas Celebration
December 5, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
I am connecting with my Dutch roots and hosting a Sinterklaas Celebration for the Holiday Season. For those of you that don’t know, Sinterklaas is where the English Santa Claus came from. In Dutch tradition, Sinterklaas came from Spain on a boat. He was the patron saint of children and sailors. He was born in the 4th century in Asia Minor and was a bishop. On November 18th dressed in royal bishops garb, he rides into town on a white horse delivering gifts and cheer and went back to Spain on December 5th. We will be celebrating that last day he is here with Sjoelen, Bitterballen, Speculaas, Stroopwafel and maybe some carrots in a boot or Dutch shoe and prizes. If you don’t know what any of that is, come and find out. And of course, lots of tasty beers. We have found some wonderful new Dutch friends that will be attending and speaking their native tongue, so it will be authentic.
